Artist's Comments

EDIT: MY NAME IS NOW SPELLED CORRECTLY ON THE BOTTOM. Hahaha.

I don't know if this really counts as pixel art or not, but that was the category it seemed to fit best.

This is my personal coat of arms, designed by myself pixel by pixel. I don't know exactly how long it took me to complete it, but it must have been at least six or seven hours, including finishing details and fiddling around with minor adjustments. At the top left is the device at normal size (100%). Below that is the device viewed at 200% of its original size, and to the right is the view at 400% of its original size.

The only components I did not create myself were the lion supporters on either side of the shield, which I borrowed from Fleur-de-lis Designs ([link]). I also took much of the following information from that site, and it's wonderful if you're looking to do some research on heraldric symbolism and the like.

COLORS

gold (or) - generosity and elevation of the mind
maroon (sanguine) - patient in battle, and yet victorious
silver (argent) - peace and sincerity
blue (azure) - truth and loyalty

SYMBOLS

falcon - one who does not rest until his objective is achieved
fusil (squares) - travel and labour
crescent - mark of a second-born child
fess (strip of gold dividing shield) - readiness to serve the public
lions - dauntless courage
Charlemagne's crown - Charlemagne was a king renowned for his love of education and the military prowess of his knights, such as the famous Roland
lyre - contemplation and tempered judgment

MOTTO

"Je vous servirai," which is French for "I will serve you."

The image upon which the crown is resting was intended to be a knight's helmet, though I'm not sure how well it came out. When I began working on this, I started with the shield and then embellished from there. I am most proud of the ribbon below the shield, which bears the motto. I think it looks perfect, folds and all.

And yes, the entire image is perfectly symmetrical, except for the wording.

The blazoning of the shield reads thusly (as I was able to assemble it): "Sanguine, on a fess Or three fusils Sanguine, in the chief a crescent Argent, in the base a falcon displayed Or"

And please don't say it looks Gryffindor-ish. I realize that it does, but that was not my intent. (I am a Slytherin. ;p) Actually it reminds me more of Tamora Pierce than anything else. Thus the title. Hahaha.
